FAQs

  • How can I get a new remote control for my opener?

We can provide you with a broad range of opener accessories from remote controls to wireless keypads. You will first need to determine the manufacturer's name of the operator and its model number. If you have an existing remote control with a label on it stating its model this can identify which remote controls are compatible. Most operators are also equipped with a "learn" or "program" button which will be located on a back or side panel of the operator. The light lens cover may need to be removed to see it. The color of the learn button can also help determine the remote-control compatibility.

  • What are the six components of an Overhead Door garage door opener safety system?

Safe-T-Beam Non-Contact Reversing System: Places an invisible infrared beam across the door opening that reverses the door during down travel to the fully open position if anything passes through the beam.

Safe-T-Reverse Contact Reversing System: Automatically stops and reverses a closing door within 2 seconds of contact with an object. Remember, force controls must be adjusted properly.

Safe-T-Stop Timed Reverse System: Automatically opens a closing door if the door does not close within 30 seconds.

Force Guard Control: This allows the user to set the MINIMUM force needed to fully open and close the door.

Automatic Lighting System: Light will turn on each time the door is activated and automatically turns off 4-1/2 minutes later.

Manual Emergency Release: This allows the garage door to be opened or closed manually for emergencies or maintenance.

  • Anything I need to know about installing a garage door opener in general?

Confirm that you have the clearance required. Open the door to the highest point of travel that the operator will require to mount approximately 3" above the door. Also, make sure that there is enough back depth for the overall length of the operator to fit. 7′ tall doors require approximately 10′ 9," and 8′ tall doors require 11′ 9". If you do not have the clearance required, a side mount operator may be a possible alternative. When installing a garage door operator, it is essential to make sure the door springs are adequately balanced and that the door is working at top efficiency. Make sure the door is braced correctly and follow the installation instructions to assure proper mounting of the operator and of its safety equipment. We recommend that a professional installer perform the installation to assure that the door will not get damaged and that all safety equipment and settings are properly adjusted.
